Outdoor Bar Stools

Outdoor bar stools are becoming very popular. Outdoor bistro sets are fast becoming a very common sight. These bistro sets have been commonly found on restaurant patios for at least 10 years but they are now also being sold as backyard furniture.

You can pick up outdoor bar stools for your deck or patio add a continental feel to your backyard. A nice set of outdoor bar stools and a bistro table looks fabulous at the side of a swimming pool. It really makes you feel like you are on a tropical vacation every time you step into your backyard.

Metal bar stools and bistro sets seem to be the most common. Generally, these are made from cast aluminum which makes them a bit less durable than those made from cast iron. Of course, cast iron bar stools are considerably more expensive than those made from aluminum. The exotic outdoor bar and bar stools set pictured above is made out of a resin wicker. The bar has coasters and can be folded into a square bar height table. This entire set and other complimentary pieces can be found at Canadian Tire.

You can pick up these outdoor bar or bistro sets in a number of different locations. A quick internet search will give you an idea of what is available in your area. To protect your out door bar stools you should also consider picking up some outdoor furniture covers. Although the covers are an added expense, proper protection of your outdoor furniture is very important. Proper outdoor furniture covers are particularly important if you live in areas of extreme weather ie. lots of snow or lots of sun and salt.

Consider adding outdoor bar stools (either with a bistro table or a bar) to your outdoor furniture scheme.

Cheap Bar Stools

Think outside the bar stool box. The vast array of different types of cheap bar stools is staggering. If you are open to the idea of bar stools you will most certainly find one that appeals to you.

Lots of customers immediately dismiss adding bar stools to there decorating scheme. They really can only visualize the stereotypical bar stool. You know the kind I'm talking about. From the begginning of time until the mid-1960s, there was really just one model. This model was 30 inches high and made from heavily varnished hardwood. It had a wooden seat and a curved back made with turned spindles. The original bar stool did not change very much over centuries. I bet that if you watched a movie set in the 1890s and a movie set in the 1950s and both had a bar scene, you would see the same bar stool. Let me know if anyone takes me up on my bet.

These days bar stools range from simple to super funky and from inexpensive to uber-expensive. A quick Amazon search for cheap bar stools proved my point. On Amazon I was able to find a simple example and a funky example within a very few minutes.

First the simple example:

This example is of a simple black 29 inch wooden backless bar stool. It has a simple but striking saddle seat. There is a 24 inch bar stool version as well for slightly less money. Both version of the stool are very reasonably priced. It is made by Winsome and has good product reviews. Amazon has given it 4 out of 5 stars. This is an example of a plain bar stool that doesn't draw attention. It is simple and unobtrusive. It also appears that there might be discount bar stools available as well.

The funky but more expensive bar stool example:

The above example is a coffee colored leather bar stool. This example is not a cheap bar stool. It is actually made from a leatherette. It has a polished chrome base, pole, foot rest and accents. The bar stool height is adjustable within in a 10 inch range so it can be adjusted for various bar heights. The height adjustment is done with a hydraulic pump. From the ad I can not tell whether this is a swivel seat bar stool.

As previously mentioned, my search took just a few minutes. If you really want to find some cheap bar stools do some online research. Google cheap bar stools and you will get many different results.

Wooden Bar Stools

Nothing says old English pub better than some wooden bar stools. There is familiar look shape and feel that makes us feel as though we are in the local Public House and about to share some laughter with friends and neighbors. It is likely the single piece of furniture that most invokes a sense of memories and reminds us of feelings, stories, or travels. Let us forever celebrate the common wooden bar stool.

Historically, these stools were constructed from oak or another hard wood. They were stained a reddish brown and heavily varnished. They were all a standard 30 inches high and the backs were made with lovely turned spindles. Short of being used as a weapon in a bar room brawl these hand made stools lasted for decades.

It is still possible to find these historical wooden bar stools or replicas of historic wooden bar stools. However, more modern wooden bar stools come in a number of different variations. These days bar stools are increasing made from pine which is a much less expensive than oak or maple and are often painted.

These stools still often have backs for support but there are many more versions of backless wooden bar stools available. These stools are generally painted and have round swivel seats that can be adjusted for height. These stools are very common and very inexpensive albeit slightly uncomfortable.

There are almost as many wooden bar stools as there are snow flakes. There are beautiful ones that harken back to days of splendid craftsmanship and there are cheaper utilitarian stools. Look around and I'm sure you feel find a wooden bar stool that fits your decor and budget and that generally suits your needs.

Backless Bar Stools

Backless bar stools have many advantages over their "with-back" brethren. These generally narrower take up less room than stools with backs. They are lighter weight. The can be easily tucked under the bar when not in use. Furthermore and perhaps most importantly, backless bar stools tend to have a lighter and airier feel to them.

On the downside, backless bar stools can be less comfortable. There also provide those seated in the bar stool with less security and stability. If the bar stool is located in a bar, the stability/security factor could be very important.

There are many different varieties of bar stools with out backs. The biggest variation might be in the height of the stool. These types of bar stools generally come in two standard sizes: 24 inch bar stool height and the taller 30 inch bar stool height. Your choice of bar stool will be necessarily dependent upon the height of the bar you wish to service. Most of the smaller stool are generally found in residential settings. The taller bar stools are found equally in residential and commercial settings.

Both bar stools without backs and with backs come in static and swivel versions. The swivel seat bar stool is much more convenient. This type of bar stool allows people to get on and off without having to move the stool legs. This feature helps reduce the wear and tear on the floor beneath the stool. Of course, the swivel seat bar stool is more expense than the fixed seat version. Although, it's speculative I expect the money you spend replacing carpet or refinishing hard wood floors might be equal to the increased cost of buying a swivel seated bar stool in the first place.

Backless bar stools are made from a variety of different types of materials which is the same for any type of stool. There is a stool to suit every taste and style.

Backless bar stools are commonly made from wood. Wooden bar stools are the oldest and most common types of bar stools across all of the different types of stools. Originally, oak bar stools or maple bar stools were common. These days pine bar stools are becoming more common. These wooden bar stool are either stained and varnished or painted.

Bar stools without backs are also made from metal, resin, hard plastic or a combination of different materials. Additionally, the bar stools can be either hard seated or made with an upholstered seat. The upholstery can either be leather or made from fabric. The backless leather bar stools tend to be very durable and a good investment. This type of stool wears extremely well and will look fantastic for years to come.

Whether you prefer a bar stool with a back or a bar stool without a back there are hundreds of different styles to choose from. You can go simple or elaborate. In choosing the style that is right for you, pay special attention to the size of your room. Backless bar stool are better suited for small spaces or for spaces where you are trying to maintain a light and airy feel.
